D3D Version 1.2
software is being made available to selected NWS WFO, Universities and
others through a CD ROM and tar files via the web.
It is recommended that when first installing this application that you
obtain the D3D CD. To do this send an email to d3d.gsd@noaa.gov
(see below) along with your shipping address. The D3D CD will promptly
be shipped to you along with a confirmation email the day it is shipped.
The D3D CD contains:

the D3D
application (16 MB)
-
a sample AWIPS localization, only including the configuration files necessary
to tun D3D
(16 MB)
-
an interesting CONUS-scale case dataset from 3-5 May 1999 (558
MB)
-
installation documentation, i.e. README, Installation
Guide and User's Guide (9 MB)
-
sample images and all D3D papers and web based presentations (52
MB)
- Note: Unless you are US National Weather Service
personnel this code will be of no use to you.
The D3D CD is self contained and is to be run on PC/Linux Red Hat
6.2.X and 7.X operating systems.
Once you receive the D3D CD, insert it into your CD drive. If
the system auto mounts CDs you are ready to continue. Otherwise, if your
system does not auto mount, type mount /mnt/cdrom
in a terminal window to continue. Prior to removing the D3D CD
from the CD drive, type umount /mnt/cdrom
(note:
if system responds with device is busy, then change your current
working directory to one other than those found on the D3D CD).
To run the application type
/mnt/cdrom/d3d/d3d_demo/app/app-d3d
Feel free to change directories (cd) to
/mnt/cdrom/d3d and become familiar with the application and its directory
structure. When you are comfortable with the application and are
ready to install it on you system get help from your system administrator
and follow the D3D
Installation Guide found on this site and on the D3D CD at /mnt/cdrom/d3d/docs/d3d_install_guide.
D3D
can be obtained by downloading the following series of tar files.
NOTE:
To upgrade your existing D3D
application with the lastest version all you need
is the application tar file, as the other two tar files are static.
