* - "Other" data here denotes all other types of Baseline NetCDF data
X - Baseline data source is being denied from this run
"" - Blank means research data source is not needed for this run
Notes:
-
/data/ihop/lapb may be inaccessable along with Hopper.
This has however been backed up
onto /scratch/staging/data/ihop/lapb.
-
The LAPS_CYCLE_TIME parameter denotes the time interval between reruns.
This is important in defining data time windows for data such as Dropsonde.
Normally the Dropsonde data time window is +/- LAPS_CYCLE_TIME.
-
KDDC and KCYS are unavailable from the archived radar database (at least
for June 9).
IHOP Rerun monitor
|
IHOP On-The-Fly Page
Directory paths and
their purpose:
- /tmp/casedate/data -
The path containing "public/data" type information such as raw satellite
information and gribbed files for use in reruns. Casedate is
a soft link and designates which period we are working on in a particular
rerun job since unlike on public, the data directories
here are organized by date, however here, the data under casedate will
appear with the same organization as on public but limited to a three day window centered on "casedate".
Note that the laps partition under /data/ihop/lapb is empty and that is because
that data has been untarred to /data/ihop/lapb/laps12 and /data/ihop/laps04
(Hopper)
- /data/ihop/lapb/laps12/ - All
of the laps data from ihop has been untarred and placed here for easy access.
This contains many holes and is the target area that need "filling" so
that subsequent model initializations can run unhindered. This partition
has been backed up to the mass store in case it needs to be rewritten (Hopper).
In the event the disk gets full from our reruns in /data/ihop/lapb/laps12_baseline we can delete the old runs in
/data/ihop/lapb/laps12.
- /data/ihop/lapb/laps12_baseline/ - The
LAPS_DATA_ROOT where data will go for the 12km baseline reruns.
This rerun uses newer analysis software with input data that was operationally available during the
IHOP 2002 experiment in real time.
(Hopper).
The associated template directory is /usr/nfs/common/lapb/parallel/laps/template/ihop/baseline/laps12_baseline.
- /data/ihop/lapb/laps12_llj/ - The
LAPS_DATA_ROOT where data will go for the 12km research reruns (for Ed Tollerud).
This rerun uses current analysis software with input data that was operationally available during the
IHOP 2002 experiment in real time (including RAOBs) plus experimental Dropsondes.
(Hopper).
The associated template directory is /usr/nfs/common/lapb/parallel/laps/template/ihop/llj/laps12_llj.
- /data/ihop/lapb/laps12_lljr/ - The
LAPS_DATA_ROOT where data will go for the 12km LLJ reference reruns (for Ed Tollerud).
This rerun uses current analysis software with input data that was operationally available during the
IHOP 2002 experiment in real time, including RAOBs.
(Hopper).
The associated template directory is /usr/nfs/common/lapb/parallel/laps/template/ihop/lljr/laps12_lljr.
- /data/ihop/lapb/laps12_goes/ - The
LAPS_DATA_ROOT where data will go for the 12km research reruns (for Dan Birkenheuer).
This rerun uses newer analysis software with input data that was operationally available during the
IHOP 2002 experiment in real time minus the GOES moisture data.
(Hopper).
The associated template directory is /usr/nfs/common/lapb/parallel/laps/template/ihop/goes/laps12_goes.
- /data/ihop/lapb/laps12_ctp/ - The
LAPS_DATA_ROOT where data will go for the 12km research reruns (for Steve Albers).
This rerun uses newer analysis software with input data that was operationally available during the
IHOP 2002 experiment in real time minus the cloud-top pressure data.
(Hopper).
The associated template directory is /usr/nfs/common/lapb/parallel/laps/template/ihop/goes/laps12_ctp.
- /data/ihop/laps04/ -
Similar to laps12 above but for the 4km runs. Note that no 4km reruns are
planned at this time.(Hopper)
- /data/lapb/ihop_work/raw/ -
50Gigs on gizmo where we can place raw files (e.g.
NetCDF wideband radar and ASCII dropsonde) that are reformatted for a particular LAPS run (Gizmo)
- /data/ihop/lapb/RUC_netcdf -
degribbed netcdf files for RUC 1, 2, and 3 hour forecasts for the LAPS
rerun effort. Note that some holes exist in this data set
discovered by John Smart. The plan is to identify the holes and
fill with RUC 6h or 12h forecasts that might be available to cover the
"holes".
Some issues:
-
Right now if you go under /data/ihop/lapb/laps12/ you will find a lapsprd and
little else such as static, or time. Do we want to localize this?
Note that the present working strategy is for our rerun DATAROOTS to be in a separate location.
Done List:
-
Backup laps12 and laps 04 data from Hopper to MSS (Dan 10/27)
-
Create workspace on gizmo. (Dan 10/30)
-
Softlink created on /data/ihop/lapb/casedate to 06/09 for first rerun test.
For furture actual reruns this softlink will have to be set by a script
on a run to run basis. (Dan 11/4) Note: must
be done from TORO and user OPLAPB
-
Set up preprocessing of grib files for lga
-
Code received from Paul Hamer (11/26)
-
Tested on linux environment 11/28, with 2 failures in degribing time values,
contacted Paul Hamer for help (11/28 DB)
-
Resolved problems, degribbed available data files for 9 June 2002 and placed
these under /data/lapb/ihop_work/raw/ruc_data. (12/1 DB)
- Degribbing RUC 40km files to netCDF for the entire exercise (underway). (DB 2/17)
- Completed the degribbing of the RUC netcdf files for the entire exercise and have placed these files on
/data/ihop/lapb/RUC_netcdf/. The creation of all the files for the rerun has elminated the need for the preliminary data under /data/lapb/ihop_work/raw/ruc_data
as a result, the data and this path has been elminated to make room for
other users of the GIZMO ihop_work disk space. (DB 2/24)
-
Attempted lga rerun using latest operational LAPS software; LAPS_DATA_ROOT
= /data/lapb/ihop/laps12;
-
Updated background.nl with path to new degribbed RUC data files.
-
Created "systime.dat" for 9-June-2002 0000 utc.
-
lga choked on nest7grid.parms.
-
Finish
template design (12km baseline run)
To Do List:
-
Relocalize for the 12km domains
- initially using the IBM multi-platform installroot /usr/nfs/lapb/builds/laps
- localized this OK by hand (as 'albers' since 'oplapb' was unreachable)
- this installroot is in place as part of the automated weekly build
-
we can transition to a new (Linux) installroot /usr/nfs/lapb/builds_ihop/laps
- similar to but distinct from the Linux multi-platform installroot
- testing (including 'make' and 'localization' steps) is beginning with the 3/8 build
- allows flexibility as it is freezable
-
Test run a baseline case (i.e., times above)
- The "post-run" script has calls to 'laps_driver.pl' and 'sched.pl'
- we can examine logs, what-got-in files, and plots
- do we need the wideband radar compression flag for "VXX" files?
-
Review templates for 12km research runs
-
Created initial templates using softlinks only.
-
Special datasets can be specified in this directory using real files for those
template namelists needing modification.
- Review dropsonde, GPS, and other data requirements
- Research data (added or denied) should be reflected in templates for each of the two research runs
-
Test run a research case (i.e., times above)
-
Multiple research runs are possible to accomodate various datasets if needed
-
Test case-run driver script in creating wideband radar polar NetCDF files for 1200 UTC June 9 with output to /export/scratch/wideband
-
This presently requires the case-run script to be run on a LINUX platform
-
Wrapper script for Paul Hamer's software is called /home/lapb/albers/ihop/radar_scripts/wideband2nc.csh
-
Purger script (under construction) is called $LAPSINSTALLROOT/etc/purge_wideband.pl
- Fill holes in existing /data/ihop/lapb/RUC_netcdf/ using either 6h or 12h forecast data that may be available in the grib repository.
- John Smart will identify holes
- Dan will create the appropriate netcdf file to fill the holes.
